Rat Snake captured; befriended

David captured a lovely black rat snake in the yard! Figured we'd try to keep it around for a while and see how it fares in captivity.  She may have been living in the empty field beside us that David went and cut.  So it's only fair to give her some free meals, right? ;)

Here she is upon initial capture.

She now has a home set up she seems happy in so far.  She has even taken his first meal in captivity.  We will see how she does over the next few weeks!

FormSpring: New form where you can ask questions!

Though it doesn't get as much traffic as it used to, I still maintain the forum for the Fish Junkies website. Somehow folks seem to miss the note about not emailing me for help...! so I decided to make use of a handy form folks can use without having to go through forum sign-up just to ask me a question.  That way I can funnel everything into forum posts myself so I can keep track of them. :D  And so the answers can benefit others as well.  Along with the website info, the forum posts still get a lot of internet search hits so it's better utilized this way.

Do Dah Day

Well, the time has already passed for this event but I like to post about local events and this is a popular one, so here is some info about Do Dah Day.  http://www.dodahday.org/
31 years now; wow it's almost as old as I am. lol

"Today, Do Dah Day is Birmingham’s oldest event.  A music festival that, in its infancy was enjoyed by 200 fun-loving Birmingham citizens, now sees more than 40,000 people from all over the United States converge on Birmingham’s Historic Highland Parks for a day of fun, food and music with their pets.  Raising more than $536,000 since 1992 for Jefferson County animal shelters, Do Dah Day is one of the city’s most cherished springtime events.
Do Dah Day has always been — and still is today — a 100% volunteer organization"

Dogs, dog-related contests and events, bands, a kid's area, and parade which features an elected King & Queen to help raise more funds (Each $1 donated is worth one vote for the candidate of your choice).
Don't forget the sponsors and the vendors.

See some photos in this news article. There were even some cleverly costumed companions this year.

Toadie

Aww... Axel made a new friend in the back yard! All the barking was putting Toad off though, so I invited him in.

I just so happened to have the makings for a happy toad home on the pet supplies rack so I set him up and brought him in. ;)

Little Frogs

They're so cute!  Now I have some tiny frogs to sit next to my tiny turtles.  The musk turtles are really the cutest little stinkers (and I do say stinkers literally too - they're not called stinkpot for nothing LOL.  Just don't pick up one and startle it...).  But my new frogs are a close rival to cuteness.  They sing out back every year and I've never actually seen them until last week when David was out back at night, after a good rain, and the little things were all over the yard.  He caught me a few and brought them in, we put them in the tank, and they started singing indoors too LOL

We found out what they sing about: it was mating season.  I think I'll be seeing tadpoles soon!
