The Pains of Cycling

Lost a yellow-tailed damselfish overnight last night. Am surprised this is it so far, really, though. No apparent cause so I am assuming it died from either the nitrites or nitrates, as there was pretty much no ammonia present and those two levels have been up for a few days now. Ahhrrrgh, the pains of cycling.

I have a question, if you do not mind:)

How do partial (large amounts though) water changes affect cycling? I don't want to change too much at one time if it'll stress my fish.

Thanks:)

A large water change is not a good idea during cycling. This will hinder and slow down the process.

If you have fish in there, chances are they'll be lost. Or if not they'll have compromised health and won't live long most likely. If you have fish you want to keep, I suggest getting them *out* of there and into some other housing in the meantime where you can do frequent water changes to keep them clean.

I prefer fishless cycling in most cases.
